Thanksgiving @ Smith’s

November 28th, 2008

The entire crew was over for Thanksgiving.  My mom cooked almost 100% American.  It was a new experience but she did great.  Sammy, our African Grey, got a little bite to eat too.  We ended the night with a photo session on my never-ending stairwell.

#231 on the to-do list

November 27th, 2008

My life is not complete if I have not built a fire with my bare hands, some sticks, a river rock, and dry grass.  I had no idea you could make a fire so quickly.  This guy knows what he’s doing and I like that he was teaching it to his son.

Ivana and Omer @ Earl Burns

November 26th, 2008

I met up with Omer and Ivana for a quick shoot at the Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden in Long Beach.  The clouds gave us great diffused light.  And the trees provided a colorful backdrop.  A few of the images would have you think we were deep in the forest.  If you’re in the area and want an hour or two of peace, swing by the garden.  It’s as quiet as the libary.

You chose an awesome spot Ivana!

Pleasant surprise.  This boy was in a bit of a rush.  The shortest distance between two points…never mind.

Of Mouse and Man

November 16th, 2008

We have a new addition to the family.  His name is McCain and he is a POW of sorts.  I actually bought him to feed my python.  He was in the terrarium as prey for 10 minutes.  Fortunately for the little guy, the snake was under the weather.  What is a man to do in these moments?  From snake food to house pet in a matter of minutes.  He currently resides in a two-story mouse mansion complete with a [hamster] wheel.  From now on, it’s going to be frozen foods only for our cold-blooded friend.

Today I wondered if strangers who visit my site ever wonder what I look like.  As a photographer, it’s kind of a rare thing for me to get my picture taken.  I’m usually the guy behind the viewfinder with the camera pressed against my face.

Wonder no further folks.  Introducing me, Smith Prasirtpun.

Vanessa and Raymond in Santa Cruz

November 5th, 2008

Mackey and I left L.A. at 7 A.M. and got into Santa Cruz around noon.  I transformed into my wedding gear in the driver’s seat like Clark Kent in a telephone booth to begin my day as Super Wedding Photographer Man.

Right from the get-go I was offered beer.  A good sign.

I had some great conversations at the reception.  Vanessa’s dad and I talked about race cars.  Her mom and I spoke about Africa while she wasn’t offering me food to take home.  A truly caring human being.  We sure appreciated the food later on that night before driving to Merced.

Trisha, it was nice talking to you too.  It had been a long time but we picked up where we left off didn’t we?  Old friends.  There’s nothing like it.  You’ve known me since I was 9!  Btw, you’ve got the coolest kids.  Great break dancers.  That was break dancing wasn’t it?

Vanessa and Raymond, congratulations.

Piñata in Veracruz

November 2nd, 2008

In July, I joined 50 others at a birthday party (piñata) in our Veracruz neighborhood.  Four generations were represented as required at any good Mexican get-together.  Family, friends, and a chino taking pictures.  As good as it gets.

Andrea and her family don’t have much in terms of material wealth, but when you follow them around for a couple of hours you discover that they’re plenty rich in love.  They are a young couple both under twenty and already bearing the responsibilities of middle aged Americans.
