Tamra made sure we had lots of time to shoot portraits. We shot before and after the ceremony…then again after the reception. You may recognize the the location if you follow a popular reality show where being a big loser can mean winning.

T+R made their exit and took a 30 minute ride around the area before coming back to finish up portraits. I’m glad they did because we were able to capture more special moments esp with the sun warming up the scene.

My favorite part of a wedding day is when me and my couples get to roam free and shoot at will. FUN.

D + V trekked down from Alaska to have their wedding in Westminster where Vihn’s family resides. I showed up early and started the day in the parking lot listening the Broncos beat the Cowboys on the very last play of the game. Go Broncos!

The ceremony and reception were held at Castle Green in Pasadena.

The interior of Castle Green is an amazing sight to see and experience. The main level is colorful and adorned with authentic furnishings. During the day it feels like most historic buildings, a bit dark and somber. But at night when the lights come on, you feel like you’ve traveled back in time and landed at a turn of the century soiree.

Even though A + S live in NY they still managed to add tons of details to their wedding.

The drummer must have had an invisible 3rd hand. He made some unbelievable sounds with his drums.

Wonderful evening but a rough drive home in the morning for the photographer. A + S + afterparty = a tired Smith. I was so exhausted on the drive home that I exited onto a random street and slept in my car for 30 minutes:)

Terry, a close friend of the Ayer family, was the gracious host of K+S’s wedding. He and his wife worked hard to prepare their beautiful home for the perfect wedding experience. I assume everyone enjoyed themselves because I did! It was a photographer’s paradise. Single location. Spacious. Scenic view on a hill. Outdoor lighting. Great people. Alcohol flowing. Laughter. Dancing. Merriment at every corner.

A wall separates J + M moments before they see each other for the first time.

J + M saw each other before the temple ceremony for the signing of the ketubah. The rabi said it was tradition rooted in the Torah that the groom sees his bride prior to marrying her just to make sure she is really who she says she is. It’s in Bereishith, the story of Jacob tying the knot with Leah when he intended to marry Rachel.

Mackey, one of my best good friends and trusty assistant, is tailing behind Mark.  The entourage.

Many of the guests wanted to put Mark up on a chair but it never happened. I was devastated;-) Would have made for some fun photos!

Beautiful night…

It was indeed a pirate wedding filled with perfect details to turn back the hands of time. And from what I gathered, being pirates wasn’t a big stretch for most of the folks in attendance. The people with their high spirits and genuine garments made V + J’s wedding special. It was a visual delight throughout. See for yourself.

The reception was held at V + J’s home which allowed the party to extend late into the night and end on it’s own terms. Parties have a life of their own. If you hold a reception at an outside venue it’ll eventually shut down because of time constraints. That works for most parties but there are some that get shut down as guests are still energetic and craving for more.  I love weddings at home. There’s no one managing time and waiting to stop your party.
